Development of a Condensation Model and a New Design of a Condensation Hood—Numerical and Experimental Study

The development of a numerical model and design for the innovative construction heat exchanger (HE) used in condensation hood (being part combi-steamer) are described this work. covers an air-steam flow, transfer, steam process. last two processes were implemented with use in-house introduced via User Defined Functions (UDF). As condensate volume is negligible compared to steam, proposed removes from domain. This approach enabled usage single-phase flow both air using species transport model. consequence, significant mesh computation time reduction achieved. new characterised by reorganised fluid externally finned pipes (contrary original construction, where internally used). allowed number 48 5, which significantly simplifies manufacturing process HE. redesigned HE was tested cases: one simulating normal working conditions combi-steamer, other extremely high load. Measurement data showed that predicted mass rate (3.67 g/s computed 3.56 measured) capability increased at least 15% when design.
